The Russian authorities are aiming to set up three new marinas on the Russia-controlled Black Sea, including the Crimean peninsula. Under the plan, the designed facilities will be constructed in Feodosia and Yalta in Crimea, and Gelendzhik.
This will significantly increase the amount of marinas located on the Russia-controlled Black Sea, as currently there are only two such facilities in Russia – the Sochi Grand and Imeretinsky marinas, reports local news site Portnews.ru.
Construction of the planned marina in Gelendzhik will begin in 2015, with the facility expected open by 2017. The marina design has already been prepared, and an environmental impact study is currently in development.
The Sochi Grand marina has berths for some 230 yachts, including six craft with a length of up to 50m (164ft). By 2016, the facility’s capacity will be increased to 300 berths.
The three projects are part of an effort by the Russian authorities to boost Crimea’s tourism industry, which has faltered since the peninsula’s annexation by Russia last year. The amount of the planned investment was not disclosed.
