Two new marina projects for Balearics (May 13, 2015)

* Two new marina projects – one in build near Palma and another proposed for one of the smaler islands – will boost capacity in the Balearics.
As to the proposed project, SB understands it will be a superyacht facility but the location and size of the project are currently subject to intense negotiation. More details will be made known to SB in due course.
In Palma de Mallorca, the 174-berth Port Calanova marina is currently working through its Phase 1, during which most of the berths will be put in place. A spokesman for the project handling berth sales told SB: “Port Calanova is based at an old port where the King was taught to sail. It is the location of the National Sailing School and many children learn to sail there.”
He added: “We are currently in Phase 1 and most of the berths will be built but we will stop work in June for the season and then restart in October. There will be 174 berths for yachts between 8m-25m (26ft-82ft). It is very much a family-orientated marina and during Phase 2 a small hotel and new swimming pool will be added.”
The managing company has a concession until 2042. A number of berths within the marina between 12m-23m (39ft-82ft) are being sold on lease periods of 10, 15 and 20 years with various financing options offered. “We are now selling the berths and we are cheaper than our competition,” the spokesman said. “The total investment for the project is around €8m.”
Port Calanova is a full-service facility including a 2,500sq m boatyard area that includes a travelift which is being increased in size from 30 tonnes to 75 tonnes, a workshop and ramp. The boatyard will offer haul-out, hoisting and launch services, and hull cleaning. There will be a professional team including qualified mechanics, carpenters, fibre and composite experts and electricians. There is also a dry-stack area for winter storage.
The marina will also have a fuel dock, 24-hour security, water, electricity and Wi-Fi at berths. Shore facilities include a restaurant, apartments, laundry, pharmacy, bank, shower and toilets.
