NMMA cancels Miami superyacht event (7 January 2014)

Superyacht Lifestyle Miami, now scheduled for February 2015, will give the association a year to “fulfill the needs” of the superyacht sector.
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) said it has canceled the Superyacht Lifestyle Miami (SLM) for this year. The trade association said it plans to hold it in February 2015.
NMMA President Thom Dammrich said the event generated “strong interest” from potential exhibitors and sponsors, but that the NMMA could “better fulfill their needs” by postponing the event.
“NMMA has made this strategic decision to best fulfill expectations of forging relationships between the superyacht industry and luxury brand categories,” said Dammrich in a statement. “In addition to superyacht initiatives already undertaken by NMMA, we are concentrating our 2014 efforts on understanding more fully the needs of the sector…we are directly asking the industry what it needs and how we can use our team to fulfill those needs.” He added that next year’s event would be “enhanced” by those efforts.
The NMMA has been working with the superyacht sector to develop ISO and other standards, lobbying on behalf of the sector on potential regulations, and developing export opportunities for yacht manufacturers. (https://plus.ibinews.com, 7 January 2014)
