Marina Port Vell to undergo €50m revamp (5 October 2011)

Work on transforming Barcelona’s Marina Port Vell is set to start in November and be completed by next autumn.

Working to a plan developed by the consultancy arm of MDL Marinas, the new layout will provide a total of 150 stern-to berths — 30 of which will be for superyachts between 60m-90m (197ft-295ft). A number of alongside berths will be able to accommodate craft up to 180m (591ft).

Marina Port Vell was acquired by London-based financial services, Salamanca Group, in 2010 and from the start the company say it had idea of how it intended to redevelop the marina into a leading superyacht destination.

The €50m revamp will include a club lounge for crew, along with a new bar and restaurant. Salamanca Marine will oversee all of the work. (Superyacht Business weekly newsletter, 5 October 2011)
