Major changes are planned for the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) next year and beyond due to the construction of a new car parking area in the Darse Nord and Quai Jarlan areas of Port Hercules.
The Monaco government has confirmed that the car park and extensions to the quays in the Darse Nord area, as well as changes on the Quai Jarlan street side, will take place over the next four years.
“This will involve a change in moving the heart of the show a little,” Johan Pizzardini, MYS communications and media manager, told SB. “However, the government has confirmed to us that we will be able to use the cruise ship berth for the show next year, allowing us to have room for up to three megayachts up to 120m (394ft) long. This will please the brokers if they have such yachts available for the 2015 event.”
The building of the car park means that the Darse Nord tent and the Quai Jarlan exhibitors will be relocated to the Quai Antoine 1er on the western side of Port Hercules next year and for the following years.
At the 2014 Monaco show, there were over 120 exhibitors in the tent and Quai Jarlan area. Among the exhibitors here are the New Zealand street businesses, the Australian stand as well as several leading builders, marinas, equipment and service companies.
“The Monte Carlo Tender Show will not be affected by the change,” Pizzardini added. “What the future for the Darse Nord area will be we do not know but from the renderings that we have seen it will be very different. We have a meeting planned with the government in November when we will learn more about their intentions.”
In a letter to the 2014 exhibitors in the affected area, the MYS organisers said about the relocation: “This has a direct impact on the MYS exhibition tents located there and de facto, their exhibitors. We have already and carefully studied the positions of each stands with the aim of maintaining the commercial synergy developed by the companies that have been exhibiting in these same tents for years.”
Pizzardini told SB: “We will keep all the exhibitors informed very very soon.” He also mentioned that a special conference might be planned to reassure exhibitors of the new arrangements.
