The French government has announced that it will not represent the proposed mooring tax in the National Assembly after the Bill was rejected by Senators.

Marylise Lebranchu, the Minister in charge of the case, wrote to MPs in a letter made public. She said that the government has “decided […] not to redeposit this provision in the National Assembly.”

The mooring tax continues to affect leisure boats moored in French protected marine areas, mainly in Corsica. The French marine sector has reacted strongly to the law.

To fight against the Bill, professional organisations led by French nautical industry body FIN have united to create a new Confédération du Nautisme et de la Plaisance (Confederation of boating and yachting). It welcomes the decision, but regrets that the Minister “continues to defend the validity of this tax”.

The Confédération and the entire leisure marine industry intend to remain vigilant until the end of parliamentary procedures.
