CNI supports MTA superyacht courses (30 July 2013)

Camper & Nicholsons international has given the Maritime Training Academy ‘Supported by’ status for the three superyacht courses that they offer.

Camper & Nicholsons International has given the UK’s Maritime Training Academy (MTA) ‘Supported by’ status in respect of three superyacht courses that they offer. The three diploma courses, all distance learning ones, are Superyacht Operations, Boat Retail and Brokerage and Superyacht New Builds.

Gemma Humphreys, who administers the courses, told IBI: “We are very pleased to have received this support from Camper & Nicholsons International. They use the courses for a number of their staff as well as yacht officers and crew. We run each course once a year beginning on October 1. This year we have had in excess of 100 people on the three courses from the UK and several overseas countries.”

Of the three courses, Superyacht Operations has been the longest running, having started in 2004, followed by the Boat Retail and Brokerage course in 2009. The Superyacht New Build course was new for 2012/13 but it attracted over 30 applicants.

Depending on time availability, students can take up to 18 months to complete the courses, with the final diploma exams being held in April and October each year. Each course contains a number of modules and students get a new module each month through the time of the course.

The MTA, which is operated by Maritime Services International and the NPI Group, also runs several commercial marine courses, a number of which would be partially or totally suitable for yachts.

Looking to the future, a series of new courses are being planned including a diploma in Superyacht Crew-The Deckhand, and Risk Assessment for Superyacht Operations. (https://plus.ibinews.com, 30 July 2013)
